As a direct response to the inequalities communities are facing at a grass root level we have established our Community Champion Scholarship programme. The MLK III Initiative prides itself as being accessible to the local communities as well as the mainstream organisations who both are in the pursuit of seeking change. This programme selects people from any background who maybe likely to be experiencing discrimination which may restrict their opportunity to achieve their potential.
“Anyone….Any Dream”
Every year we offer up to 13 people and their families the opportunity to apply for a scholarship within the following sectors:
Arts and Media
Business
Sports
Health care
The applicants are encouraged to contact us and discuss their situation and together tailor a scholarship programme which suits their needs. Our approach is unique and personable for all who require support. There is no official application process or any time consuming administration, we are only an email away. What is unique about our programme is that we provide mental health support from our partner Think About Mental Health Ltd. We believe that with any challenge in life having someone to talk to who provides support, advice, guidance as well as sign-posting is what can make the vital difference.
For our inaugural pilot we have partnered with Balance Sports Agency Ltd who has identified a young person called Torres Dave Corlis. A 13 year old aspiring footballer who has the dream to become the next “Messi”. However, we recognise the reality of realising this dream. The need for practical support and expertise to nurture talent is where lays the restrictions for Torres. In partnership with Balance Sports Ltd our scholarship has provided Torres with the vital training expertise and equipment along side day to day mentoring support to the family. Together, we have tailored the ideal programme.
“Empower the family to support the talent……..”
“As with many young people from inner cities across Britain, access to high quality after school training can be costly for the family which excludes and reduces their opportunities to achieve their potential”
